| Q. |
How
far is Ranier Sunrise from Bond University and
the shops? |
| A. |
Two kilometres (1.24 miles): 20 minutes walk,
5 minutes cycle ride, 2 minutes drive. There
is a bus 3 minutes walk away which takes you
to the entrance to Bond. A lot of our students
either cycle or share a car. Robina Shopping
Centre is enormous, and is the same distance
as Bond from Ranier Sunrise in the opposite
direction. Local shops and cafes are on the
way home from Bond (Market Square in Varsity
Lakes). |
| Q. |
Where is the closest
beach? |
| A. |
Our closest beach is North Burleigh which is
7km away, about 8 minutes drive or 20 minutes
cycle ride. It is spectacularly beautiful, with
good surf and life-savers who patrol the beach. |
| Q. |
The individual
rooms are not air-conditioned - does it get very
hot? |
| A. |
The living areas are air-conditioned, and all
bedrooms have ceiling fans which are great for
keeping the air comfortable. There are only about
2 months of the year, December and January, when
it is very hot - the rest of the year is a superb
temperature, very pleasant (around 24-28 degrees
C). |
| Q. |
Do the rooms have
closets/wardrobes? |
| A. |
All rooms have fitted closets/wardrobes with
hanging space and shelves. In each room the wardrobe
doors are fully mirrored. |
| Q. |
Do the rooms have
internet access, and do we have to pay extra for
this? |
| A. |
Each bedroom has a connection to telephone and
fax point, internet and email access plus free-to-air
TV. Broadband (high speed) internet access is
available upon request from Telstra (the main
telephone company in Australia). You will have
to pay a telephone connection fee of Aus$59 plus
monthly rental fee for the standard telephone
line - broadband is additional. Students can join
together to pay for just one access for the whole
house. |
| Q. |
Why are the bedrooms
different prices - what is the difference between
them? |
| A. |
The top floor master bedroom is the best as
it's the largest and has the largest bathroom
with a spa bath, so it is the most expensive.
All the other rooms have their own bathrooms -
see floor plans.
Click on the small floor plan for a larger version. |
| Q. |
Is the rental
fee per week all inclusive, or is there anything
else to pay on top? |
| A. |
Telephone fee as explained above, plus electricity
(shared between the occupants) are additional
to the weekly rent. Electricity is likely to be
approximately Aus$10 - 15 per person per month.
You also have to pay a 4-week "bond"
- see "booking in advance" below. |
| Q. |
If the other rooms
in the house are not filled, will I still be able
to rent my room? Will I have to pay any extra
for the unused rooms? |
| A. |
We may need to put you in a similar room in
another house within the same complex in order
to ensure that the houses are fully utilised.
You will not have to pay any extra for unused
rooms. |
| Q. |
Are there males
and females in each house? |
| A. |
So far most houses have been rented by a mixture
of males and females, although we have had one
all-female house by request. This can be arranged
if there are four students wishing to rent together,
or requesting a same-sex house. |
| Q. |
What laundry facilities
are provided? |
| A. |
Each house has a washing machine and tumble
dryer provided in a purpose-built laundry room.
There are also clothes dryers provided in the
garden/external courtyard. |
| Q. |
Can I book my
room in advance or do I have to wait until I arrive? |
| A. |
It is best to book in advance to secure your
room. The accommodation deposit to secure a
room is 4 weeks rent, to be paid at the time
of booking. This becomes your first four weeks
rent upon arrival. Rental fees are payable in
advance.
To book, please complete the
Booking Form - then "save as"
under your name in your computer, and email
it as an attachment to Paul
Button.
A bond of four weeks rent is payable upon arrival
and will be held by the Residential Tenancies
Authority of the Queensland Government. This
bond will be refunded at the end of the lease
providing the room is in a satisfactory condition
on inspection and handover. Carpets will be
professionally cleaned at the tenant’s
expense – this can be paid directly or
deducted from the bond.
The lease agreement is as per the conditions
specified by the Residential Tenancies Authority
of the Queensland Government. For more information
please see www.rta.qld.gov.au. |
| Q. |
What happens to
my deposit if I have to cancel after I've paid
it? |
| A. |
Accommodation Cancellation Policy
If an accommodation booking is cancelled less
than four weeks prior to the commencement of
the lease, the deposit will be forfeited. Deposits
will be refunded in full less a $50 administration
fee if cancellation is received in writing more
than four weeks prior to lease commencement. |
